Evaluation of failure criteria for residual tensile strength of composite laminates with circular holes

To evaluate the effect of circular holes on mechanical properties laminated composite plates with different sizes, static tensile destructive tests were carried out four types layups and aperture sizes. The experimental results showed that for layup, strength specimens a diameter 6.35 mm decreased by 44.3 %, 51.3 48.0 39.4 % compared to intact specimens, greater proportion 0° decrease perforated specimens. Under same as hole increased, rapidly constant ratio width. Based results, three commonly used models predicting residual plates, including point stress criterion, average field intensity method, evaluated. criterion had higher accuracy method.
